26.10.21 - 29.10.21 - Brazil
26.10.21 - 29.10.21 - Brazil
The campaign in Brazil was organized by the Brazilian Stroke Network in partnership with Brazilian Stroke Society, Brazilian Academy of Neurology and Stroke Support Organizations. We acted on several fronts disseminating information in order to alert and raise awareness among the population about stroke. In Brazilian territory, the campaign was divided into two main phases: the first one, which began in July, drew people's attention that stroke don’t stay at home, mostly because it was registered, during the COVID-19 pandemic, a global decline of stroke affected patients arriving to the hospitals, fearing for COVID-19. T
hrough press releases across the country we reinforced the risks delaying in recognizing the first symptoms and seeking specialized care, emphasizing that, although most of emergency services, hospitals and healthcare units are primarily focused on the care for patients infected by the coronavirus, care for patients with stroke is also ensured in specialized centers. This issue was widely publicized by many media channels. For example, only on radios, , there were 642 uses of the content, broadcasted by 593 stations located in 518 cities, reaching a total of 75,021,800 people. To widen the alert, we also have a partnership with digital influencers, artists and journalists from the healthcare area, who joined our cause and, through their social networks, shared content and messages to raise awareness about the issue. On the website, www.combatendooavc.com.br, an E-book was made available on the issue, templates for social networks and other materials were available for institutions and companies to share the campaign's important message. In the second stage, which started on September, the highlight was alerting about the stroke signals, how to recognize them and how to seek out for immediate help . Companies and institutions also joined in this awareness campaign.
In São Paulo, for the first time, the clock on the historical Estação da Luz, where the Museum of the Portuguese Language is based in, was illuminated in blue, calling attention to the fight against stroke. In São Paulo's subways, which transports more than 5 million passengers daily, messages were displayed on station panels, as well as on trains operated by SuperVia, Rio de Janeiro, which serves around 600,000 passengers every day.
In Rio de Janeiro, the main tourist spot and one of the most famous in Brazil – The Christ Redeemer, was also specially illuminated for the World Stroke Day. From October 26th to 29th, an extensive online program was carried out, free of charge, involving not only the general public, but also content for children (teaching about stroke in a playful way) and healthcare professionals (training CVA care, pre-hospital care for CVA and the preparation of hospitals to receive these patients). On October 29th, the Brazilian press widely publicized the campaign. We also mobilized widely on its social networks (Rede Brasil AVC). Over the course of the campaign, from July until now, it reached a total of 2,398,533 people on Facebook; 881,421 on Instagram; 213,606 on Twitter and approximately 20,000 on LinkedIn.
