WSO is a global voice for stroke professionals, patients and caregivers. Our advocacy goal is to ensure that stroke gets the level of policy attention and investment required to address this world leading cause of disability and death. We work with our members to raise public awareness of stroke and to highlight the urgent need for focused action on prevention, treatment and support.
WSO is the only stroke organziation in official consultative relations with the United Nations. This enables us to bring the voice of patients and professionals around the world into the heart of global policy discussions. We partner with the World Health Organization, providing technical input to the HEARTS initiative and on decision making in relation to essential medicines and devices for stroke.
WSO also partners with the NCD Alliance, which links us to a strong collaborative policy advocacy network, where we bring a stroke focus to global efforts to address the causes and consequences of Non-Communicable Diseases.
As founding partners in the Global Coalition for Circulatory Health we collaborate with other global organizations including the World Heart Federation, World Hypertension League and International Society of Nephrology to advocate for action on screening and management of key circulatory risk factors for stroke.
Achieving our vision of a life free from stroke is a task that WSO cannot achieve alone. We are committed to building our partnerships at the global, regional and national level to scale up and deliver improvements in prevention, treatment and support to reduce the burden of stroke.
