To mark Stroke Awareness Month, Renfe and the Stroke Prevention Foundation are launching a new edition of the campaign “Would You Know How to Identify a Stroke?” throughout October. The campaign will be featured on AVE high-speed trains, long-distance trains, and at stations across Spain. The initiative coincides with World Stroke Day on October 29th and aims to raise awareness among the millions of people who travel on Renfe or pass through its stations every day. On that day, Renfe tickets will also include information on how to identify a stroke and how to respond appropriately, reinforcing the importance of early detection. The campaign's audiovisual materials will be disseminated in Spanish and the other official languages of Spain to ensure greater reach and accessibility for all citizens. The campaign materials offer clear guidelines for identifying the most common symptoms. If you experience any of these symptoms, even just one, it is crucial to call 112 immediately. One in four people will have a stroke in their lifetime, and acting quickly can save their life or significantly reduce its long-term effects. Stroke is the leading cause of death among women and the second leading cause in the general population in Spain. Every year, more than 120,000 people suffer a stroke in our country, and more than 24,000 die from it. It is also one of the main causes of acquired disability in adults. The good news is that 90% of strokes can be prevented through healthy lifestyle habits and the control of risk factors. Rapid identification of symptoms and immediate activation of the "Stroke Code" protocol make all the difference in the patient's prognosis.
