Public Awareness Programme

The Comprehensive Stroke Care Division of Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Trivandrum organized multiple events to sensitize the public, patients and caregivers, and healthcare workers on the importance of stroke prevention, risk factor control, early identification of stroke and its management, secondary prevention and integration of stroke survivors back to the community. The activities conducted at SCTIMST are public awareness (through media and public awareness meetings), testimonials from stroke survivors, and poster presentations for healthcare workers. To increase public awareness through media, articles were published in two well-read Malayalam dailies, Mathrubhumi, and Kerala Kaumudi, and in the English newspaper “The Hindu”. Also, TV Channel interviews were given by Dr. P N Sylaja and Dr Sapna Ein the Kaumudi channel and DD channel respectively to raise awareness about stroke and the importance of timely management to reduce death and permanent disability. A public awareness programme was also conducted at SCTIMST AMC auditorium on 29 October 2023 which was attended by nearly 250 persons including the public, patients, caregivers, and health care workers. The meeting was inaugurated by Sri. Jiji Thomson IAS, Former Chief Secretary, Government of Kerala. The meeting also witnessed patients and caregivers sharing their experiences about going through stroke and how they overcame the disease and the support they received was really promising in the path ahead. The poster competition conducted for staff and students of SCTIMST based on the theme “Begreater than stroke” received huge responses. 32 posters, both English and Malayalam competed and was scored by three judges. The best five posters were selected and were given cash prizes and certificates during the public awareness meeting by the Chief guest Sri. JijiThomson IAS.
