Objectives of the World Stroke Summit Africa Ministerial Meeting (6 August)
- Position stroke as a major health and development priority across Africa, requiring coordinated national and regional action.
- Share practical policy approaches and country experiences to strengthen prevention, improve access to stroke care, and support implementation within African health systems.
- Foster political leadership and commitment to accelerate progress, strengthen accountability, and ensure stroke remains a priority within national health agendas.
In addition to the Ministerial Meeting, delegates will participate in a series of workshops focused on stroke prevention, acute stroke care, and rehabilitation.
Objectives of the World Stroke Summit Workshops (7 August)
- Provide participants with practical tools to implement effective stroke prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation strategies.
- Promote integrated, multidisciplinary care across the entire stroke pathway.
- Support the scale-up of evidence-based interventions and adaptation of best practices to local contexts.
- Strengthen clinical leadership and implementation capacity within healthcare systems.
- Improve stroke outcomes through quality improvement initiatives and the effective use of data.
A dedicated hands-on teaching workshop for neurointerventionalists, aimed at strengthening regional capacity in mechanical thrombectomy, will also take place from 6–8 August 2026.
