Today, the World Health Assembly has adopted the first-ever resolution on stroke. This is a historic global commitment to reduce the burden of stroke through prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and equitable access to care for all.
WSO President Jeyaraj Pandian shared a statement highlighting the urgent need for action from global leaders to prioritize action for the 12 million people who experience a stroke each year and the 94 million people living with stroke globally.
For too long, we have not done enough to prevent, treat, or support those who survive. Today marks a true turning point.
This moment belongs to all of us: to the survivors who shared their stories, the researchers who built the evidence, tenacious advocates who refused to be silent, and the Member States who answered the call for #StrokeActionNow. Today, your voices were heard.
But this is only the beginning. A resolution is only as powerful as the action that follows, and we will not stop until comprehensive stroke services are available to all.
