The World Stroke Organisation (WSO) is looking for an editor in chief of its new Open Access journal, which will be launched in 2027. This builds on the success of the International Journal of Stroke (IJS), which has established itself as one of the leading stroke / neurology journals, and has seen a great increase in submissions from 700 to 2000 per annum, and now accepts less than 10% of submissions.
The new WSO open journal will be independent of the IJS, and have a separate editor in chief and editorial board. It will operate as an Open Access journal, charging for submissions, although there will be waivers for some papers from low income countries. The authors of the best papers not accepted by IJS will be offered consideration by the new journal, and it will also be open to direct submissions.
We are looking for an editor in chief to lead development of the new journal. They will be responsible for establishing the direction of the journal, appointing the editorial board, and working with the publisher Sage to open the journal in 2027. They receive editorial and manuscript processing support from Sage publishing. A modest honorarium will be provided.
The ideal candidate would have an international reputation in stroke, as well as previous experience in journal publishing.
Interested candidates should submit a short CV (maximum 4 pages including previous journal / publishing roles) and a letter of motivation (maximum 2 pages) explaining why they feel they would be a good candidate for the role. Applications should be submitted to the following email address admin@world-stroke.org by latest 20th August 2026.
Interesting candidates are invited to contact Hugh Markus, editor in chief of the International Journal of Stroke, on hmarkus@world-stroke.org if they would like to discuss the role further.
