From July 10 to July 13/14, 2026, the association S'adapter will launch a Mediterranean sailing expedition departing from Port Grimaud (Saint-Tropez), heading to Corsica before arriving in Monaco.
On board are Louis Gustin, President of the S'adapter association, and Tom Mallet, skipper. They share an extraordinary story: both are stroke survivors who experienced aphasia.
Louis was part of the World Stroke Congress in Barcelona in 2025, presenting in the session, The arts in life after stroke research and care. Louis spoke about how he developed a graphic novel about his journey post-stroke.
Together, Louis and Tom will take on this challenge with a remarkable distinction: between them, they have only two fully functional arms, proving that determination can overcome the limits often imposed by disability.
This expedition is being carried out in partnership with the stroke support organisation, Monaco AVC, which will welcome the crew upon their arrival in Monaco.
More than just a sailing adventure, Setting Sail for Aphasia is a public awareness campaign designed to shine a light on aphasia—a condition that remains largely unknown to the general public—and to deliver a message of hope to everyone living with a neurological condition or an invisible disability.
This expedition is part of the wider mission of S'adapter, which develops awareness conferences, cultural projects (including his graphic novel and an upcoming manga), and sporting adventures to help change society's perception of stroke and aphasia.
Louis said, "Sailing teaches us to find our course despite the unexpected. After aphasia, finding your course again is also an extraordinary human adventure."
