The World Stroke Organization is pleased to announce the outcome of the 2025 WSO Awards deliberations. Each year, the Awards recognize outstanding contributions to stroke care, research, and advocacy worldwide.
Following review and discussion by the WSO Senate and WSO Executive committee, the following recommendations have been confirmed:

Services to Stroke Award – awarded to Professor Ren Yu Liu (USA) in recognition of his outstanding work in stroke services. The Award will be formally presented at the World Stroke Congress in Barcelona, 22–24 October 2025, where Professor Liu will also be invited to give a lecture on a topic of his choice. WSO warmly congratulates Professor Liu on this well-deserved recognition of his achievements.

B. Johansson Award – the award returns to its alternate-year schedule and will not be presented in 2025. All nominations received this year will be carried forward and considered alongside those submitted for 2026.

Clinical Stroke Research Award – will be presented in 2026, allowing additional time to ensure that all nominations fully meet the eligibility criteria and reflect the highest standards of scientific excellence.
While the 2025 slate of awards is reduced, the WSO emphasizes that each recognition remains a vital expression of appreciation for the individuals and teams whose work drives progress in the global fight against stroke.
