Hong Kong Stroke Society meeting
I attended the Hong Kong Stroke Society Annual Scientific Meeting on December 5th, where I spoke about WSO’s flagship programs, including Stroke Center Certification, the World Stroke Academy, the Future Leaders Program, and other key strategies aimed at reducing the global burden of stroke. During the event, I had productive discussions with office bearers about launching the WSO Stroke Center Certification program. It was inspiring to see medical students and nurses actively participating in the stroke awareness competition.

WSO China Stroke Action Plan Update
I had the privilege of attending the Capacity Building Program for Stroke Healthcare Professionals in Shaanxi Province, held in Xi’an on December 7th. The program was organized by Prof. Han Jianfeng and Prof. Shen Li from Shinjitan University, Beijing, with faculty members Prof. Yu Liping, Prof. Chang Mingze, and Prof. Zhang Bo. More than 110 healthcare professionals from the province participated. During the panel discussion, I emphasized the importance of stroke center certification in China to improve and standardize the quality of stroke care. Prof. Craig Anderson also shared insights on recent ICH management.

On December 8th, I conducted a site visit for WSO Stroke Center Certification at the First Affiliated Hospital of Jiaotong University. Established just one year ago, this center offers excellent stroke services and is leading efforts to develop stroke care across the province.

Later that day, I visited the First Affiliated Hospital of Jilin University in Changchun, Jilin Province—a region with the highest stroke burden in China. The stroke center there manages a very high patient volume and plays a key role in advancing stroke care in the Northeast provinces. Dr. Jang Li, Vice President of the hospital, is a dynamic leader supported by an outstanding and highly motivated young faculty.

On December 9th, I conducted a site assessment at the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian University in Fuzhou. Present during the visit were Dr. Dezhi Kang (President), Dr. Dajun Chai (Vice President), Dr. Shiyue Ye (Directorate of Medical Affairs), Dr. Bin Cai (Deputy Director of Neurology), and Dr. Dengliang Wang (Deputy Director of Neurosurgery). This hospital plays a major role in developing stroke programs in Fujian Province.

Overall, WSO plans to certify at least 50 stroke centers in the coming months, marking a significant step toward improving stroke care quality and standardization across China.
It has been an extraordinary honor to serve as President of the World Stroke Organization during the past year. WSO has demonstrated remarkable resilience, innovation, and collaboration in advancing stroke prevention, treatment, and recovery. Together, we have strengthened partnerships, fostered research, and advocated for equitable access to care worldwide. The expansion of Stroke center certification globally, advocacy and the proposed WHO Resolution in stroke are tremendous achievements. We had many implementation projects, advocacy meetings in Western Pacific region, WHA Geneva and UN GA New York.
I am deeply grateful to our dedicated Executive and board members, partners, and supporters whose commitment has driven progress and inspired hope.
Thank you for your trust and for the privilege of leading this organization. Wishing you all a Blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year.
