President’s Message – February 26
February has been an active and meaningful month for the World Stroke Organization (WSO), reflecting our continued commitment to advancing global stroke care, research, advocacy, and collaboration across regions.
One of the key highlights this month was WSO’s engagement at the International Stroke Conference in New Orleans, a premier global platform for stroke science and clinical innovation. The conference once again demonstrated the rapid progress being made in stroke prevention, acute care, and recovery. WSO’s presence at this important meeting reaffirmed our role in fostering international dialogue, sharing best practices, and strengthening partnerships with researchers, clinicians, and policy leaders worldwide.
Equally important was the WSO Executive Committee Meeting, where we reviewed our strategic priorities and ongoing initiatives. These discussions focused on aligning WSO’s programs with our mission to reduce the global burden of stroke, strengthen advocacy efforts, and expand access to quality stroke care. The Executive Committee’s engagement continues to be instrumental in guiding WSO’s direction and ensuring effective governance across our global activities.
Another significant milestone this month was WSO’s participation in the Association of Sri Lankan Neurologists Annual Conference in Colombo, which provided an excellent opportunity to engage with regional stakeholders and reinforce collaboration within South Asia. I spoke about the WSOs strategies to reduce the global burden of stroke and our future plan is to launch the WSO stroke center certification program in Sri Lanka.

WSO Stroke center Certification and National Accreditation Board of Hospitals (NABH), India
WSO signed a second MOU for three years to scale up the joint certification program in India. In the pilot phase 19 stroke centers have been certified and our goal is to certify 100 centers this year.
I would like to thank our Board members, Executive Committee, partners, and members for their continued dedication and leadership. Your collective efforts are essential to achieving our shared vision of reducing the global impact of stroke.
