We are pleased to announce that the WSO Officers Prof Jeyaraj D Pandian, WSO Vice-President and Prof Bo Norrving, WSO Past President have been elected for the WHO Strategic and Technical Advisory Groups on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases (STAG) and Prof Valery Feigin, WSO Executive Committee Member - for the Strategic and Technical Advisory Groups on the NCD-related research and innovation (TAG/RI).
The STAG group will act as an advisory body to WHO to further its efforts and work in addressing the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The aim is to strengthen international and national action in these important public health areas and thereby: reduce premature mortality from NCDs through prevention and treatment, progressively cover additional people with health services, medicines, vaccines, diagnostics and health technologies and strengthen efforts to address NCDs as part of Universal health coverage.
The TAG-NCDR will act as an advisory body to WHO to further its efforts and work in promoting NCD-related research and innovation and its translation. The aim is to promote international and national investments and strengthen national capacity for quality research and innovation, for all aspects related to the prevention and control of NCDs in a sustainable and cost-effective manner.
WSO would be able to influence the WHO policy on stroke prevention through research and innovation in these two advisory groups.
