Ischemic stroke remains a leading cause of disability and mortality worldwide, with atherosclerotic disease representing a major underlying mechanism. Preventing recurrent events in this population continues to be a clinical priority, requiring careful selection of antithrombotic strategies that balance efficacy and safety.
To support healthcare professionals in navigating this complex and evolving field, the World Stroke Academy has developed an educational infographic titled “Current Insights into Antithrombotic Therapies for Ischemic Stroke Prevention: Focus on Atherosclerotic Stroke Disease.” The infographic provides a concise, visual overview of current concepts and emerging perspectives in antithrombotic management for patients with atherosclerotic ischemic stroke.
The pathophysiological role of atherosclerosis in ischemic stroke and its implications for secondary prevention
Current antithrombotic approaches used in clinical practice, with attention to antiplatelet strategies
Ongoing challenges in optimizing stroke prevention while minimizing bleeding risk
Areas of active research and future directions in antithrombotic therapy development
By presenting complex information in a clear and accessible format, the infographic aims to support evidence-based decision-making and stimulate reflection on how evolving data may shape future clinical practice. This educational resource is intended to complement existing guidelines and clinical judgment, rather than replace them, and encourages continued learning in a rapidly advancing therapeutic landscape.
