Beijing, China — October 29, 2025
On World Stroke Day, the Chinese Stroke Association (CSA), together with National Ministry of Health, the National Center for Neurological Disorders (Beijing Tiantan Hospital), the National Clinical Research Center for Neurological Diseases, and the National Collaborating Centre for Neurological Disorders Prevention (NCCNDP), jointly hosted a nationwide campaign in Beijing under the global theme “Every Minute Counts — Know the signs of stroke. Act FAST.”
Aligned with the Global Stroke Action Coalition (GSAC) initiative, the event emphasized the urgency of early recognition, timely treatment, and comprehensive stroke prevention. The Chinese domestic theme, “尽早识别,立刻就医” (Early Recognition, Immediate Action), highlighted the importance of rapid response to stroke symptoms.
National Call for Unified Action
Representatives from the National Health Commission, national academic institutions, leading hospitals that serve as provincial centers for cerebrovascular disease prevention and control, and provincial stroke associations participated in the event.
During the event, Prof. Jeyaraj Pandian, President of the World Stroke Organization (WSO), delivered a video address commending China’s achieve-ments and emphasizing the importance of international partnership.
The Chinese Stroke Association called for collective efforts to:
Prioritize prevention, by promoting healthy lifestyles such as low-salt, low-fat diets and regular physical activity;
Innovation and Collaboration
The National Center for Neurological Disorders (Beijing Tiantan Hospital) emphasized three strategic focuses: optimizing the emergency stroke network, enhancing technical capacity, and strengthening multidisciplinary collaboration.
As the national lead institution for cerebrovascular disease prevention and control designated by the National Health Commission under the Healthy China Action Plan, the Center is responsible for building the nationwide cerebrovascular disease prevention and treatment system and for organizing national programs on surveillance, prevention, clinical care, rehabilitation, long-term management, and capability enhancement in cerebrovascular health.
The NCCNDP plays a key implementation role, coordinating with provincial stroke associations and technical lead hospitals to translate national strategies into action. NCCNDP leads initiatives in capacity building, data monitoring, training, and professional capability enhancement across regions, ensuring that national policies are effectively implemented at the local level.
China’s Contribution to the Global Stroke Action Coalition
The event also introduced the GSAC China Action Plan, which aims to improve reperfusion capacity nationwide through AI-assisted screening, adoption of innovative therapeutic technologies, and strengthened inter-hospital collaboration — bridging local practice with global standards.
Ms. Mia Grupper, Executive Director of the World Stroke Organization, welcomed China’s strong engagement, noting that “collaboration through the Global Stroke Action Coalition is transforming fragmented efforts into unified global action — accelerating progress in stroke prevention, treatment and continuing care for everyone, everywhere.”
Empowering Survivors and the Public
During the event, the CSA Stroke Survivor Association was formally established to empower patients and caregivers in clinical decision-making and long-term rehabilitation. Public communication campaigns such as “Stroke 120” and “BE FAST” were highlighted as essential tools for improving community awareness and timely response.
Toward a Healthier Future
China’s nationwide stroke prevention and treatment network is evolving from emergency response to full-chain management. By integrating big data, technological innovation, and coordinated implementation led by NCCNDP, China will continue contributing to the global goal of reducing stroke incidence, disability, and mortality.
This year’s World Stroke Day event demonstrates China’s firm commitment to the Global Stroke Action Coalition vision — making stroke prevention and care a shared global priority.
