Each year 12 million people suffer stroke worldwide, 6.5 million of them will die as a result, and over 100m people living in the world have experienced stroke. The WSO mission is to reduce the individual and global burden of stroke through more effective community prevention, high quality acute care, and improved long-term support.
WSO strategy is developed and delivered by our members - a global team of stroke leaders, working to reduce the global burden of stroke. Our programmes are developed and led by our Committees, Board, Executive and implemented by expert project Task Forces.

The WSO 2023-2026 Strategy sets out our strategic goals and priorities and guides programme decision-making and resource allocation.
Achieving our vision of a life free from stroke is a task that WSO cannot achieve alone. We are committed to building our partnerships at the global, regional and national level to scale up and deliver improvements in prevention, treatment and support to reduce the burden of stroke.
