Adnan Mujanović MD PhD, born in 1996, is a clinical research fellow and a resident at the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology, University Hospital Bern Inselspital, University of Bern, Bern, Switzerland.
Training: Adnan obtained his medical degree from the Medical Faculty at the University of Tuzla, Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina. His academic journey includes participation in the exchange programs at Antwerp (Belgium), Osijek (Croatia), Barcelona (Spain), Ismailia (Egypt), Marrakesh (Morocco) and Vienna (Austria). He completed his PhD in 2024 at the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology, University Hospital Bern Inselspital investigating the effect of incomplete reperfusion in the era of endovascular therapy. Additionally, he obtained a Certificate of Advances Studies (CAS) in clinical research from the University of Bern in 2024.
Research Area: His research area is centered on the management and clinical implications of incomplete reperfusion after endovascular therapy. His work also explores microvasular reperfusion and use of perfusion imaging in both therapeutic and prognostic patient management. He is part of the core team of the TECNO trial (NCT05499832) which is investigating the safety and efficacy of intra-arterial tenecteplase for non-complete reperfusion of intracranial occlusions.
Awards: He is a recipient of the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship, Paul Dudley White International Scholar Award and Young Research Award by the European Society for Human Genetics, to name a few. For his extracurricular engagement, he has received the ALBA – FKNE – YIBRO grant, the CEEPUS grant and the Global Engagement Seed Grant from the International Brain Research Organization.
Professional: He is a Board member of the Swiss Association of Young Neurologists and the National Society Representative for Switzerland in the Resident and Research Fellow Section of the European Academy of Neurology. He is a recent graduate of the Guideline Education Program from the European Academy of Neurology. He serves on Journal of American Heart Association as an Early Career Board Member, Digital Strategist Editor for Stroke, and Social Media Committee member for the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology.
Publications: To date, he has published over 50 papers in high-impact medical journals.
Special interests: He has a keen interest in endovascular training regulations and access to endovascular therapy. Currently, he leads a task force on endovascular training requirements supported by the Resident and Research Fellow Section of the European Academy of Neurology.
In private: In his free time, he loves spending times by rivers, lakes and seas, enjoying the sun and water sports.
